Summer ESL Program
Solebury School’s summer program is a six week, fun filled American academic and cultural experience. Students improve their English in a short immersion program, which helps prepare them for boarding school life and/or future schooling in America. Students learn about teacher expectations, independence, and peer relationships. Program- Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels
- Emphasis on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
- Small classes
- Art course, sports, other cultural and recreational activities designed to introduce students to American Culture.
- Computer course introducing concepts and the techniques of using Microsoft Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets), Power Point (presentation graphics), e-mail, and the internet.
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Preparation offered to intermediate and advanced students only Certificate issued upon successful completion of the program; no academic grades or credit given

Weekends
- Three-day trip to Washington, D.C. to visit: The Capitol, Smithsonian Institute, Bureau of Engraving, Union Station, night tour of monuments, Arlington Cemetery, National Cathedral
- Two-day trip to New York City to visit: Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, Shopping on 5th Ave., American Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, Museum of Modern Art, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Hard Rock Café and a Broadway Show • Day trips to Philadelphia, PA, and Baltimore, MD to visit: historic sites, museums, famous South Street and Inner Harbor
- Outings to local ocean beaches, amusement parks, shopping malls, movie theaters, a Music Festival, and a professional baseball game
- College visit to Princeton University
Other Information
- Accommodations : Students live on campus in a faculty-supervised dormitory. The dormitory is arranged in two-bedroom suites. With air-conditioning, kitchen, laundry facilities, student activity center, computer room and study room, students are ensured comfortable accommodations during the program. The campus includes use of a library, swimming pool, tennis courts, student center, and gym.
- Dates : Monday, July 7 – Friday, August 15, 2008
- Ages : 13-18 years old, 8th grade through entering 1st year of college
- Size : Total program limited to 36 students.
Travel
Students should arrive on Monday, July 7 after 12:00 noon
Departures on Friday, August 15 should be arranged after 9:00 am
All airplane travel should be through the Philadelphia or Newark International Airports
Costs
Tuition includes room & board, health insurance, books, activities, art and computer classes, weekend activities and trips: $7,900.
Application fee: $100.
