Student Life

For Solebury School’s day and boarding students, each weekday brings a full schedule of classes and activities. A typical day for Solebury boarding students begins with breakfast at 7:20 am in the dining hall with fellow students and faculty. The academic day runs from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Day and boarding students have lunch in the dining hall with their friends, faculty and staff in one of two periods each day. Boarding students enjoy dinner times together with friends and the faculty families who live on campus.

“More than anything else, I think that it’s the people who make Solebury School such a great place to be. The small size of the school means that you know almost everyone and can always find someone to talk to or hang out with."

In the afternoon, all high school students are required to participate in after school sports or activities which run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Athletic teams meet 5 days a week for practice, sometimes more for games; activities meet 3 days. Eighth graders are required to participate in an upper school sport during the third trimester. On Tuesdays, both Middle School and High School students, as well as faculty and administration, are required to attend an all-school assembly at 2:25 p.m., and then are dismissed, unless they have a scheduled sport or activity. On other days, Middle School students leave at 3:30 p.m. unless they participate in an upper school sport or activity or the Middle School after-school program.

Solebury’s rotating schedule is based on a 6-day cycle over a five-day week, with each class 50 minutes long. This schedule enables assigned time each week for students to meet with their advisors, ask teachers for extra help during conference times and come together as a community in school-wide assemblies. Woven into the daily schedule is an M & M period, Music and Meetings, each morning from 9:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This is a time when chorus, instrumental and jazz ensemble meet and rehearse. Student and faculty formed clubs also meet during this time. Afternoon all-school assemblies are held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Assemblies are a great place to make announcements, take care of school business and wish friends a happy birthday. Tuesday assemblies are longer to allow for guest speakers, advisor meetings, or other group activities.
