Baseball Hide

(SPRING) Varsity boys team plays about 15-18 games in a season and competes against private and local public schools. This program meets five days a week. This team participates in the Penn-Jersey Athletic Conference.

Boys Basketball Hide

(WINTER)Varsity and Junior Varsity teams play a very strong independent schedule with approximately 20-22 games in a season against top private and public schools in the area as well as occasional games with teams from New York or Washington, D.C. This program meets five days a week. The team does not participate in the Penn-Jersey Conference.

(WINTER)Varsity team only, unless we have sufficient numbers for a JV team. The girls' team plays approximately 18-20 games in a season. This program meets five days a week. The girls' team participates in the Penn-Jersey Athletic Conference and plays a strong out-of-conference schedule against local private schools.

Cross Country Hide

(FALL) This is a coed activity with varsity competition within the Penn-Jersey Athletic Conference as well as other local private schools. The program meets five days each week.

Field Hockey Hide

(FALL)The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team plays about 14-16 games in a season. Competition is against private and local public schools. This program meets five days each week. This team does not play in a conference.

Flamenco Dancing Hide

(FALL & SPRING)Flamenco dance is an art form from Spain that has traditionally been taught informally generation to generation within families. Flamenco at Solebury will introduce students to the attitude, movement, and footwork for dance choreography. Performance of this choreography is encouraged. Students will gain confidence, strength, and flexibility, and do not need prior dance experience.

Horseback Riding Hide

(FALL, WINTER, SPRING) Solebury's riding facility is located at the West End Farm, less than two miles from campus. Transportation is provided. Wendy McCook, a 1965 Solebury School graduate, owns the horseback riding facility. The program provides several levels of instruction in the American System of riding and allows room for the pleasure rider and the more serious rider to advance and improve. This program has been part of the curriculum for 18 years and meets two days a week. Two options are available: The first allows students already owning horses to ride them in the afternoon. The second offers the beginner riding instruction from West End Farm. Option two has an additional fee per trimester.

Girls Lacrosse Hide

(SPRING)The girls lacrosse team plays about 8-10 games in a season. Competition is against private and local public schools. This program meets five days each week. This team does not play in a conference.

Literary Magazine Hide

(WINTER) The Solebury Literary Arts Magazine (SLAM), is produced mainly by student editors and is published once a year. Two or three editors work with a faculty advisor and produce the magazine as their winter activity. Other editors may work part-time on the magazine as their schedules allow. The magazine contains poetry, short fiction, and art submitted by students and faculty. Students work with Pagemaker desktop publishing program. This activity meets three times per week.

Middle School Physical Education Hide

(FALL, WINTER) All middle school students who do not participate in an upper school activity must take this class, which meets twice a week. Basketball, soccer, and other games make up the curriculum.

Newspaper Hide

(FALL, WINTER) The Scribe is the Solebury School newspaper written by students for students. Students work with Adobe Pagemaker desktop publishing program on three to four issues per trimester. This activity will meet three times per week.

Outdoor Club Hide

(SPRING) This activity centers on noncompetitive outdoor activities including biking, hiking, and canoeing. Spring is a great time to explore the backcountry. Participants must have a multi-gear road bicycle in good working order and a helmet. All levels of outdoor experience are encouraged to participate. This activity meets three times a week when biking and twice a week when canoeing.

Recreational Golf Hide

(FALL) This is a coed activity that will meet three days a week, two days at the range, one at the course. There is limited sign up (9 golfers) and golf clubs are required. An additional fee is required for this activity.

Recreation Tennis Hide

(FALL)Participants will practice their skills through warm-ups, some drills, and most of all, by playing matches against each other. This activity meets three days per week and has limited enrollment.

Rock Climbing Hide

(FALL, WINTER) Students at beginner through advanced abilities visit a local indoor climbing facility, The Adventure Center/Rock Gym, and are taught climbing techniques. They may also climb at Ralph Stover State Park High Rocks and occasionally to Schwangunks and other areas. An additional fee is charged and parental permission is required.

(SPRING) Competition is on a varsity level with local private and public schools. The team normally participates in 15 matches each season. This coed program meets five days each week.

Theatre Performance Hide

(FALL, WINTER, SPRING) This coed activity may include either performing a role in or working on the technical stage crew for one of the school plays. There are three full productions each year, ranging from drama to comedy, and classical to contemporary theatre. The winter production is a musical. The technical stage crew involvement includes working with lighting, sound, set construction, set painting, and stage management. No experience is necessary. The main requirement is a sincere desire to build and create while working as a member of a team. Students may only take theatre as an activity option for two of the three trimesters. This program meets three to five days a week, depending on individual involvement. Time requirements depend on the production but may entail some Saturday and Sunday rehearsals.

Track Hide

(FALL)The focus of Fall Track is to offer an activity that will allow athletes to both improve their overall conditioning as well as develop specific skills and strength necessary for Track and Field. The activity will focus on the four attributes of strength, speed, agility, and endurance, and it will meet four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 3:45-5:00.

Track and Field Hide

(SPRING) Track and Field is coed and open to all students. Conditioning, skill development, competition, and inclusion in the team are emphasized. There are approximately eight meets per year against local private schools. This program meets five days each week.

Video Club Hide

(WINTER) Open to all students. They are responsible for the videotaping of all winter basketball games.

Walking Club Hide

The Walking Club meets three times a week and usually takes a van to an area on the PA or NJ towpath along the Delaware River (no cars are allowed on the path). Students walk at their own pace, and we try to cover anywhere from 2 to 4 1/2 miles per day. Unless the weather involves pouring rain, we walk. Sturdy sneakers (or hiking boots) and rain gear are recommended! Last spring we walked a total of 74 miles over the nine week period. Students can bring a walkman to listen to, or socialize with the other members of the club, while getting their exercise.

Weight Training Hide

(FALL & WINTER) Students develop a weight lifting program which works all their major muscle groups. Strength training is accomplished with the use of a universal, free weights, cycles, and treadmills. Students develop a personalized lifting program and maintain a required journal for charting their progress. Weight training is open to all upper school students and meets three days a week.

(FALL) The wrestling team will have about 10-12 matches, along with 3-4 tournaments in a season. This program will meet five times a week. The team does not participate in the Penn Jersey Athletic Conference.

Yearbook Hide

(FALL, WINTER) Using Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop, students learn graphic design and book layout and also take, develop, and print black and white photos. Knowledge of computers and photography is helpful. This program meets three days a week.
