International/English as a Second Language Program

A Global Experience

Solebury’s international students are a vital part of the school community. With one in seven students from a foreign country, Solebury provides a lesson in international relations and relationships. Students are prepared to successfully meet the academic and personal challenges of studying in a foreign country and are encouraged to express their ideas and opinions openly. Strong communication with faculty provides support for international students and instills confidence. Assimilation into Solebury’s community is made easier through clubs, activities, sports, and our Conversation Partners Program. American students may find themselves with a study partner from Seoul, a roommate from San Paolo, and friends from everywhere — Madrid, Spain to Tokyo, Japan (or maybe a part of the U.S. that feels a world away). As an added result, international students have many opportunities for leadership in student government, academic areas, and dormitory life, which, in addition to academics, is essential for admission to a competitive college. All the while, international students become more and more immersed in the American experience while they learn English — all in a small, safe environment. The sharing of cultures enriches everyone.

International students have attended our programs from many countries including Brazil, Bulgaria, Burkino-Faso, Czech Republic, China, Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Spain, Sudan, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Venezuela, South Viet Nam, and Zaire.
